Ladies, if you have not already noticed, culottes are taking over! For those of you wondering what in the world are culottes: they are trousers that hit at the knee giving the illusion of a skirt due to their wide cut legs. In the Victorian Era, culottes were worn by woman so that they could ride their horses normally rather than having to ride side saddle in their dresses. These provided women with easier movement allowing them to perform more tasks that were previously difficult to do without the split legs of pants. Wearing skirts is not every woman’s cup of tea; however, with culottes you can give off a similar appearance by still keeping the comfort of pants. Culottes are being featured on and off the runway being styled in many different ways. The possibilities for culottes are endless. Crop tops work well with them for a summer look but blouses and button ups paired with culottes always provide a professional and fashionable outfit. Personally, I think that heels are the best shoe to wear with your culottes. Heels elongate your leg which is nice because culottes do come a little past the knee. Things that are an A-line cut generally look better with a heel to make your legs really stand out.
Professional looks: Our first look is white culottes with pumps and a navy blazer. This is a very stylish work outfit great for a job where you must be out working with public. On the right is black culottes with a gray chunky turtleneck sweater and pumps for a more casual but still professional look. I love this winter look and the wine colored bag gives this outfit a perfect little pop.
Summer and more revealing looks: The first picture shows white culottes with a white tee tucked in and a leather crop top worn over. This particular outfit demonstrates beautiful contrast between the white and the dark brown leather. The colors are perfect for summer and this outfit is sure to keep you cool and chic. Next, we have black culottes worn with a black bandeau crop top and black ankle strap sandal heels. Zendaya shows us again how chic all black outfits can be. The bandeau crop top is more of a revealing piece but this outfit is put together forming a tasteful look.
I am obsessed with these [cute]lotte looks and used them for inspiration to create my own knockout culotte #ootd. Check it out below! Do not be scared to try styling yourself in culottes, think of them as jeans and you will come up with the perfect outfit in no time. One last piece of advice, when the boys ask you,”What are you wearing?” do not sit there and waste your time trying to get them to properly pronounce ‘culottes’… it’s never going to happen. Maybe Siri could help him out?
This look is styled by me: White J. Crew culottes, FRAME neck tie blouse, Blanc Noir suede motto jacket, ALDO white strappy heels, Fossil collection handbag, and Ted Baker sunnies. Enjoy!
